oishy Morris was on his way back from the store along with his little sister Miriam. They turned in to Sunny Lane.

Suddenly Miriam stopped.

“Look!” she said.

Moishy tried to urge her forward. They’d already stopped to look at a wall with unusually colored bricks a tall tree and a broken door; Moishy was becoming rather fed up. He wanted to get home already.

“There’s a ladder!” pointed Miriam digging her heels in and refusing to go any further. “Like in Yaakov’s dream. Morah told us.”

With a sigh Moishy turned to look at where his sister was pointing. There was indeed a ladder leaning against Jolly Solly’s house. Moishy couldn’t help wondering what it was doing there.

He craned his neck to look all the way up to the top. There was the clown not on the ladder itself but perched on the roof doing some kind of work.

“Hello Jolly Solly” called up Moishy.

“Hello hello” echoed Miriam jumping up and down excitedly. She was very fond of Jolly Solly!

The clown grinned back.

“Sorry folks I can’t wave I need both hands right now” he explained apologetically.

“What are you doing?” asked Moishy.

“Some maintenance work on the roof. There are some small jobs that need taking care of before they turn into big jobs. You know what they say ‘a stitch in time saves nine.’“

Moishy and Miriam stood and watched interestedly for a while before they realized they’d better make their way home in case everyone started worrying about where they were.

They were eating supper when suddenly they heard a commotion break out in the street.

Moishy and Miriam jumped up quickly eager to find out what was going on but Bracha was faster. Their big sister was in charge that evening and much to their annoyance she made them sit down and finish eating everything on their plates before they were allowed outside.

Moishy and Miriam polished off their food as fast as they could said a brachah acharonah and then ran out. To their surprise there was a police car up the road.

Fishel and Faivish came rushing toward them looking flushed and breathless.

“Boy was that exciting” exclaimed Fishel.

“Amazing” said Faivish.

“What happened?” asked Moishy hastily before the pair could get into one of their long-winded arguments. “Tell me!”
