Mrs. Morris was not pleased. She’d opened the kitchen cabinet where the breakfast cereals were kept only to find that five new cornflakes boxes had been opened all at the same time. And the old box was still half full!
“Who opened all the new cornflakes boxes when the old one isn’t even finished yet?” demanded Mrs. Morris.
There was a pause then someone spoke up hesitantly.
“It was me” said Miriam Morris in a small voice.
“You?” asked Mommy in surprise. “But you don’t even like cornflakes.”
“B-but there was a prize inside” said Miriam “an’ I wanted to get lotsa prizes.”
The prizes consisted of garishly colored rather gruesome-looking plastic monsters and Mommy had little doubt that within a day or two Miriam would have completely lost interest in them. But at the moment that made little difference.
“Hmm” said Mommy. “What are we going to do with all these open cornflakes now? Are you going to eat them?”
Miriam hung her head. She couldn’t see herself finishing one box of cornflakes let alone five!
Moishy tried to be helpful. “I’ll have cornflakes for breakfast tomorrow” he offered even though he really preferred rice crispies. “I don’t mind.”

“That’s very kind of you” said Mommy. “But even if you have cornflakes for breakfast on Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday for the next three weeks you still won’t manage to finish them all.”
“What about Leah and Chavi?” asked Moishy thinking his big sisters might be of some help.
“They don’t like cereal for breakfast” replied Mommy.
Moishy and Miriam tried to think of another idea.
Miriam suddenly clapped her hands excitedly.
“Jolly Solly!” she exclaimed.
“What about him? asked Mommy in surprise. “Did you just see him walk past the window or something?”
Miriam shook her head.
“I think Miriam means Jolly Solly might be able to help” said Moishy. “Can we call him up?”
“I guess so” said Mommy doubtfully. “I wonder what he could do though.”
