Surrounded by Water

Venice in Northeast Italy is one of the most famous cities in the world. Located on the Adriatic coast it’s a saltwater lagoon of the Mediterranean inhabited by almost 300000 people. What’s unique about it is that it’s built on 118 tiny islands with strips of ocean in between so that instead of roads there’s ocean. These strips of oceans are called “canals.” They are the roads of Venice.

Here take a look at this street. It looks like a regular street — houses in two straight rows sidewalks trees even lampposts. Except that instead of a street there’s water so instead of cars there are boats!
