Ari Z. Zivotofsky

Rabbi Dr. Ari Zivotofsky is a professor of neuroscience at Bar Ilan University in Israel. Originally from NY, he has lived in Israel for close to 20 years. He learned in Yeshivat Har Etzion, has degrees in engineering and Jewish History, and is trained as a shochet. He researches and writes widely about halacha, history, Jewish customs and communities.

Together with his long-time chavrusa and friend, Dr. Ari Greenspan, he researches interesting kashrus issues and they originated the idea of and organized five “halachic mesorah seudahs”. They engage in “halachic adventuring”, which includes visiting old and small Jewish communities, matzah baking, and seeking out mesorahs. Many articles about these adventures have appeared in the pages of Mishpacha magazine.
