Blessed Wine

A brachah, connected to the Source of brachah

The man leaned in close and repeated his request: After eight years of marriage, he and his wife had not yet been blessed with children. Rav Chaim Kanievsky was quiet for several seconds, and then asked his visitor which drink he used for Havdalah. The man replied that he generally made Havdalah on grape juice, and Rav Chaim instructed him to use wine instead. “Will he then have a child?” asked Rav Chaim’s grandson and attendant, and Rav Chaim nodded.

Ten months later, the couple was blessed with a son — on the very day that the daf yomi, in the tenth perek of Pesachim, discusses the proper way to recite Havdalah.
