A Single Line in an Approbation

“In our generation, in which divorce is prevalent and marriages sometimes lack the feeling of joy, this book will help"

Though Rav Avigdor Nebenzahl, the revered rav of Jerusalem’s Old City, doesn’t give as many formal shmuessen as he used to, his message resounds just he same. A single line in an approbation he recently penned speaks volumes.

After reviewing the galleys of Rav Dovid Rosman’s sefer on shalom bayis, originally released in English as Your Wife, Yourself (Feldheim), and now being published in Hebrew, the Rav wrote:

“In our generation, in which divorce is prevalent and marriages sometimes lack the feeling of joy, this book will help. In my opinion, when a husband has complaints against his wife, he should try to summon up the memory of what he felt at the very start of his marriage….”

Then, the Rav closes with a personal note. “When I look inward and examine my relationship to my first wife, zichronah livrachah, I feel it was a merit for me that if ever she was hurt or offended, I nearly broke into tears at her pain…”
